Indiana Pacers Coach Rick Carlisle Agrees to Contract Extension
Continuity in Indianapolis
Carlisle to Continue Rebuilding Project
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Rick Carlisle is staying put in Indiana. The Indiana Pacers have announced that they have agreed to a contract extension with their head coach, ensuring his continued leadership of the team's rebuilding project.
Carlisle, who has previously coached the Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks, took over the Pacers in September 2021. Since then, he has overseen a significant roster overhaul, bringing in young talent and developing a strong team culture.
"Rick has done a tremendous job in leading our team through a period of transition," said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard. "We are confident that he is the right person to continue to build a winning culture in Indiana."
The Pacers have made steady progress under Carlisle's guidance. They finished the 2022-23 season with a 36-46 record, a marked improvement over their 25-57 record in the previous season.
Carlisle, who was born in Watertown, New York on October 27, 1959, has a wealth of experience in the NBA. He has coached over 1,500 games, winning over 800 of them. He has also led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA championship in 2011.
With Carlisle at the helm, the Pacers are poised to make further strides in the upcoming season. They have a young and talented roster, led by All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, and are eager to make their mark in the Eastern Conference.
