Celtics Clinch Game 1 Victory Over Mavericks

Boston's Defense Stifles Luka-Kyrie Duo

Porzingis Shines for Dallas Despite Defeat

BOSTON - The Boston Celtics extended their winning streak to 10 games with a commanding 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals on Tuesday.

Boston's defense suffocated the potent Luka Dončić-Kyrie Irving duo, holding them to a combined 29 points on 11-of-39 shooting. Dončić, who averaged 32.5 points in the regular season, was limited to 18 and committed seven turnovers.

Meanwhile, Kristaps Porzingis was a bright spot for the Mavericks in his return from a calf injury. The Latvian center scored 20 points, including 18 in the first half, but his efforts were not enough to overcome Boston's overall dominance.

The Celtics, led by Jayson Tatum's 27 points, controlled the tempo throughout the game. They forced 16 turnovers from Dallas and dominated the boards, outrebounding the Mavericks 47-32.

The Mavericks, who are seeking their second championship in franchise history, now face an uphill battle to even the series. They will host Game 2 in Dallas on Thursday before the series shifts back to Boston for Games 3 and 4.
