Top football player wants equal pay
Alisha Lehmann demands clear rules
Goal getter unloads in interview
Swiss national football player Alisha Lehmann is fighting for equal pay for women and men. She says that she is not satisfied with the fact that she is paid 100,000 times less than her male colleagues for the same work.
In the news program "Hemmanet" on the Swiss TV channel SRF, the striker of the English club Aston Villa said: "I think women and men should be paid equally. I don't see how it can be so different because in my opinion we do the same work."
Lehmann, who is dating the German national player Douglas Luiz, refers to the salaries of Lionel Messi and Alex Morgan. According to Forbes, Messi earned $130 million over the past year, including salary and sponsorship revenue. Morgan, on the other hand, earned $1.3 million.
In October 2022, the Norwegian Football Federation announced that it would pay women and men equally. Lehmann hopes that other football associations will follow suit and introduce clear rules for equal pay: "I believe that both women and men should be paid the same for the same performance. There is no reason why women should be paid less.
